I started oil pulling about 8 months ago and I definitely swear by it now. Oil pulling has been a staple in the health world for several years but I just never took the time to research its benefits. I thought, “swishing oil in my mouth, that does not sound pleasant” but it is not at all like you would think. If you use mouthwash, then oil pulling will not be a problem for you.
For those of you who are oil pulling newbies, it’s when you use approximately a tablespoon of oil and swish it in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. I prefer using coconut oil because it is one of the better tasting oils and well, you can never go wrong with coconut oil.
You can oil pull at anytime. I like to do it in the shower or while I am doing tasks around the house, that way I have my mind on something else and the time goes by faster. I would not recommend doing this when you have on nice clothes just in case some of the oil drips because it could leave an oil stain.
The Benefits of Oil Pulling
The benefits of oil pulling are incredible. Here is a list of reasons to start:
- It kills bacteria in your mouth
- It can reduce bad breath
- Oil pulling can decreases bloating…yes please!
- Improves digestion
- Whitens teeth
I can personally attest that all of these are true. And finally a cheap and non-chemical way to whiten teeth! How come I didn’t know about this years ago?!? I drink a lot of coffee, so this girl’s teeth definitely needs all the help they can get.
If I wake up in the morning and I am bloated from a meal the night before, I oil pull right after I brush my teeth. It definitely helps with the bloating I am experiencing. If you have never tried oil pulling, give it a try. I hope you experience the positive results like I do!
*Note – the best coconut oil to buy for oil pulling is organic virgin cold pressed and unrefined. It is less processed and will produce better results.
